In 2012 Cascades was faced with a dilemma that most properties encounter when they begin the process of remodeling only certain areas of the property first. In the case of Cascades, the remodeled lobby and residents hallways on the first floor were being well received. But the salon that was just off the main resident hallway was tired and dated. Many of the newer senior living communities in the area were either adding or updating their salons and other amenities to reflect the current trend of living well by having spa inspired spaces for salons and exercise rooms. Cascades had already updated the exercise room on the 3rd floor and it too was a huge success now it was time for the beauty salon. The current design and décor was reminiscent of the 1970’s. The salon chairs had ashtrays located in the arms... the lighting, flooring and stylist stations were also not working properly. The entrance was small and did not allow anyone who was in a large wheel chair to enter without assistance. The existing salon footprint was small. It only could accommodate two stylist stations with sink units. The hair dryers and manicure station needed to be located away from the entrance to allow new clients to arrive safely without getting in the way. All the electrical outlets needed to be brought up to code as well as the plumbing. Moving the wet wall or adding a new wall was not an option. The existing unsecured mechanical closet for that area of the building was located inside the salon taking away valuable storage space. New storage was added in the form of built in cabinets that allowed for access from inside the salon instead of going into the mechanical closet. Creating a wider entry by removing the existing window and door with a six foot opening and double French doors makes this small salon seem larger and more inviting. Adding decorative lighting and creating a flooring pattern with easy to clean vinyl tiles gives this small salon a little bling that is was definitely missing before the renovation.SEE FULL PROJECT DETAILS.
